The Canadian EV rewards landscape in late 2026: 20+ programs, two models
Canada now has more than twenty programs paying drivers for home EV charging, from charger giants to car-native newcomers. They all run on Clean Fuel Regulations credits, but they split into two fundamentally different models — and the model determines who can actually join.
Model one: charger-based
ChargeLab Rewards (10¢/kWh flat, quarterly gift cards), SWTCH Home Charging (3¢ then 11¢ after 1,500 kWh, $300 refundable charger deposit), Hypercharge Home Club (same structure, $299 deposit), Grizzl-E Club (3–10¢ tiered, invitation-based) and Pion Power GreenMiles (10¢/kWh, annual cheque) all verify kWh through smart-charger hardware. Accuracy is high — the charger meters the session directly — but eligibility narrows to single-family homeowners who own (or buy) compatible OCPP hardware at $300–900.
Model two: car-based
Telemiq verifies charging from the vehicle's own telemetry — Tesla Fleet API today, with Ford, Hyundai/Kia, Rivian, VW, Porsche, Polestar and GM connections rolling out. Any charger qualifies, including the 120V outlet your car was plugged into before you joined. Condo dwellers on shared building chargers qualify. Rates run 5–21.75 pts/kWh across five annual tiers with referral multipliers, paid by Interac e-Transfer.
Which fits which driver
Own a compatible smart charger at a single-family home and want dead-simple metering? ChargeLab's flat 10¢ is competitive — though gift-card payouts and hardware lock-in are real trade-offs. Drive a supported EV, rent, live in a condo, or charge from a wall outlet? Car-based is the only model that includes you at all.
Heavy home chargers should run their own numbers: at 8,000+ annual kWh, Telemiq's upper brackets out-earn flat 10¢ rates, and the full side-by-side comparison — rates, hardware requirements, payout mechanics for every program — is maintained on the comparison page.
